temporal lobe | noun: a large lobe of each cerebral hemisphere situated in front
of the occipital lobe. it stores and retrieves memories, understands language, and processes emotions and auditory input.

temporal lobe literary celebrates the richness of nonfiction.
it seeks to publish works from every place on the nonfiction spectrum: poetry, essays, memoirs, interviews, and everything in between. we welcome hybrid creative nonfiction works, and believe the genre has an underappreciated versatility.

memories, sensations, thoughts, and ideas rooted in reality
—yours or not—are wonders. we are excited to read them!

general guidelines

 all work should be submitted through this google form  we accept previous published work  you may submit to multiple genres  your work should be double spaced, 12 point, and in a legible font  upload your work to the google form as a word document or PDF  we welcome hybrid works. they should follow the same guidelines as prose  we accept simultaneous submissions. however, please let us know immediately      if you have been accepted elsewhere.

all submissions remain the intellectual property of the author. rights revert to the author upon publication.


guidelines for prose

  prose should be less than 18 pages  you may submit up to three pieces of poetry  we accept ALL forms of nonfiction and creative nonfiction prose, including      but not limited to: memoir, essay, interview, biography, and autobiography.

Anouk Shin is a writer from St. Paul, Minnesota. She was a 2024 Adroit Summer Mentorship Program mentee. Her writing has been featured in The Vindex and Bowseat, and has been recognized by the John Locke Essay Competition, the John F. Kennedy Foundation, and National History Day. She is a prose editor for Rewrite The Stars Review. In her free time, she likes romanticizing the day to day and binging Law and Order: Special Victims Unit.

Ricardo Frasso Jaramillo is a writer of poetry and nonfiction. His work can be found in The New York Times, McSweeney’s Quarterly Concern, The Believer, and The Yale Review, among other venues. He has received fellowships from the National Book Critics Circle, The Fulbright Commission, and la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM), where he was previously a Profesor de Asignatura (Lecturer). This year, Ricardo is beginning a PhD in Creative Writing and Literature at the University of Southern California. He is also beginning work on his first book: the incomplete biography of a volcano.

Andi Erickson is a senior at Interlochen Arts Academy, who finds theirself intrigued. Attending boarding school in northern Michigan, they enjoy aesthetically shaped trees and being a creative writing major. They are a Junior Editor at Polyphony Lit. Andi is out or forthcoming in The Interlochen Review and VIBE. They are dipping their toes into hybrid work.
